Associate Programme
For law graduates in their first years of practice who want to litigate.
Associates at Vertari Legal work on the chamber's matters from intake to hearing. That means reading the brief and settling the chronology, researching the law and recording it in the chamber's proposition bank, drafting petitions, applications and written submissions, preparing the paper book, and attending court with the partner conducting the matter.
The practice is contentious and the forums are varied: an associate will see writ petitions, special leave petitions, commercial suits, arbitration proceedings, bail applications and tribunal matters within a year. Associates are expected to argue in the district courts and the tribunals as they are ready, and to take a matter through with the partner rather than hand it on.
The chamber looks for a sound academic record, an interest in litigation, and the habit of reading a judgment in full. Enrolment with a State Bar Council is required before appearing. Applications should be sent by email with a curriculum vitae and a short note on why litigation, and why here.
